The New Pathways -- Leading Your Team Forward

After “Planning and Implementing” project (Pathways Level 3), "Leading Your Team” is the first step toward putting our plan into action.

For the final session of Youth Leadership Program (YLP) held at ITE College East, I worked with my facilitators to showcase how much the students had learned and how far they had come. Graduation Showcase was held on 2 November 2017 from 4.45pm to 6.15pm.

We had three teams - Yellow, Red and Green - each with 15 students. From these three groups, we selected 2 prepared speakers, 2 evaluators, an emcee and a topic master. In addition, we also pre-selected 3 student panelists (one from each team) and asked them to prepare a week in advance on the discussion topic: "Degree or Skills - Which is more important?

On Graduation Day, besides the usual prepared speeches, evaluations and table topics, we added in the panel discussion with a conference ("expert") speaker. As a former SAF Scholar, President Richard Ong DTM was the Conference Speaker. He delivered a very well researched paper on the subject matter.

The panel discussion was very lively and engaging as each panelist shared their views. We also had inputs from the audience as well as from Teacher-Advisor Grace Angel.

After the successful conclusion of the panel discussion, President Richard delivered his closing remarks and presented "graduation certificates" to the participants.

Acknowledgement with thanks!

  1. A great example, how Pathways give you incentive and prepares to work outside the Toastmasters club. To plan, to form a team, to create a 'happening' and help. I am at this stage now on another path and still not knowing how to go about it. So many questions!

Who to take in my team? How to decide the steps ? How you created this great event?
