The New Pathways -- The Final Journey!

15 March 2018 came and went. World Speech Day was a great success! Only in its 3rd year, more than 100 countries participated in this global event which was streamed 'live' via YouTube! Speakers came from all ages and backgrounds... from very young student groups to very matured adults...

World Speech Day Singapore 2018 was offically declared opened by Guest-Of-Honour, Ms Joan Pereira, Member of Parliament, Tanjong Pagar GRC. It was held at the YMCA of Singapore. This was a full 12-hour programme where speakers shared their vision for "A Better World". For Singapore, our sub-theme was "Lifelong Journeys - Learning and Leadership".

Here is a synopsis of what happened at World Speech Day Singapore on 15 Match 2018...

Programme Highlights
a) First Session (9.30am to 12.30pm): Opening Ceremony, Lifelong Learning and Mandarin Segment
b) Second Session (1.30pm to 6pm): MINDS students, Women Empowerment and Youth Speakers Showcase
c) Third Session (7pm to 9.30pm): Toni International Hour, Rotary Hour and Closing Ceremony.

As Co-Chair, World Speech Day Singapore 2018, I had to oversee and coordinate in marketing and rollout of the programme. Multitasking is an important skill to learn early in life. We have learned to be master of our own destiny.

Even if you had planned everything to perfection, the ugly head of Murphy could appear from time to time. What would you do?

The name of the game is "flexibility and preparedness". In the afternoon, I came in as the substitute speaker during "Women Empowerment" segment to deliver a speech entitled "Real Happiness Is Helping Others" by the earlier speaker. I was surprised to receive encouraging reviews for a hastily prepared draft.

I had a lot of fun being the host of "Rotary Hour" in the evening. It gave me the opportunity to share about the wonderful organisation, Rotary International, and of my own home club, Rotary Eclub of 3310. We featured speakers from as young as 15 to as old as 75... and from Singapore, Germany, India and Bangladesh!

With World Speech Day 2018, I have successfully completed the requirements of my DTM project. After delivering the final speech at YMCA Toastmasters Club on 21 March 2018, I shall apply for my DTM recognition.

If all goes well, I'll be a "brand new" Pathways DTM before the end of March 2018.
